Guidelines

Presentations should comply with the following general requirements:

  • not sales-oriented*
  • do not feature company name, logo or contact details
  • do not include brand names of any products
  • reflect new information or new developments
  • cannot be too general; a specific viewpoint is preferred
  • presentation should not have been presented at any other event, unless they contain new information and have been adapted for the audience

* Commercial presentations will not be accepted; the conference management reserves the right to refuse presentations with any commercial references.

Subsequent publishing of papers
Authors may have their papers included in the trade press and/or distribute reprints provided:

  • Publication or distribution does not occur before the presentation at Smart Grids Europe 2009 Mention is given to the Smart GridsEurope 2009 in subsequent reprints.

Audiovisual equipment
The conference room has been equipped with:

  • Conference laptop
  • Data projector
  • Screen
  • Lapel microphone for speaker/moderator
  • Stage with lectern and microphone for speaker
  • Laserpointer
  • Handheld microphones

If you need any additional audiovisual equipment please contact the conference management. AV technicians will be available each day to upload presentations on the conference laptop and assist speakers with technical issues.

Timekeeping
Each speaker has 25 minutes for his/her presentation, with 5 minutes allocated to questions from the audience. When you are preparing your talk, we suggest you plan for a presentation time of 20 minutes; this will give the chairman enough time to introduce you. Please ensure that your presentation does not run over the time allocated.

No sales pitches
Conferences are for education, not sales pitches. The biggest complaint we get is that a speaker spent the session talking about commercial products instead of educating the audience.

Be readable
Make sure your slides and handouts are legible to everyone. To make sure your message comes across, try to avoid many different colors or to much information on one slide.

Interaction
Try to involve your audience in your presentation, interaction creates discussion!

Be creative
Liven up your presentation by using anecdotes, slides, photos and videos that make the ideas and stories more tangible.
